How to write a Vinted description that sells

Open with one sentence that says what it is: brand, model, item, colour, size and condition. Then add what Vinted's form can't hold: how it fits, its measurements, every flaw and which photo shows it, and what comes with it. Keep other brands' names out, even as hashtags: Vinted hides listings that use them.

Vinted's help centre checked .

What Vinted's form already asks

Before you get to the description box, the listing form takes most of the basics. What it asks depends on the category:

CategoryThe form asks for
Clothing (jeans, tops, dresses)Brand, size, condition, up to 2 colours, up to 3 materials
Men's jumpersAs above, plus length and shoulder width in inches
TrainersBrand, size, condition, colours, materials
HandbagsBrand, condition, colours, materials (no size)
Mobile phonesBrand, model, storage, condition, SIM lock, colours

Say the essentials once, in your opening sentence, because Vinted's search reads the description too. Spend the rest of it on what the form can't say.

From the Vinted UK listing form, 10 October 2026. Vinted changes it from time to time; if the app asks for something else, the app wins.

What to put in the description

  1. One opening sentence. Brand, model, item, colour, size, condition: "Levi's 501 Original jeans in blue denim, W32 L32, good condition."
  2. How it fits. True to size, runs small or runs large. It's the question buyers ask most.
  3. Measurements. Clothes laid flat, in inches: pit to pit and length for tops, waist across and inside leg for trousers. A laid-flat waist is half the real one, so 16 in flat is a 32 in waist. Shoes: insole length in cm. Bags: width, height and depth in cm.
  4. Every flaw, and which photo shows it. Marks, stains, holes, pilling, fading, odours. Buyers can ask to return an item that's significantly different from its listing, so a flaw you named is one they can't complain about.
  5. Anything altered or missing. Repairs, tailoring, a cut-out label, missing parts, and materials beyond the three the form takes.
  6. What comes with it. Dust bag, box, receipt. For electronics: charger, cable, the plug type, and any faults or repairs.
  7. Hashtags for this item only. Your item's own brand is fine. Another brand's name ("Zara-style", "like Ganni") is not, even as a hashtag.

Why the description matters

Search reads it. Vinted lists the description among the things it ranks listings on: it's “used to evaluate the relevance of an item to the search query” (Vinted help). A buyer searching “501 W32” finds the listing that says W32.

It protects the sale. Vinted asks sellers to name every flaw and show it in the photos. A listing that's honest about the fading on the front is hard to call “not as described”.

Common questions

Can I use hashtags on Vinted?

Yes, for your item's own brand and what it is (#levis #jeans). Vinted's rules ban other brands' names in the title, description or hashtags, not hashtags as such.

Do I need to repeat the size if the form has it?

Once, in the opening sentence, is enough. The label size helps search; the measurements help the buyer decide.

Is there a Vinted description generator?

Not from Vinted. Its listing form gives you an empty description box and you write the rest yourself (checked October 2026).

That's why we made Worthmore's Vinted description generator. Tell Larkie what you're selling, or start from a photo of the item and its labels, and she writes the description in the shape above, with a Copy button so you can drop it straight into Vinted. You get a price to start from as well, and it's free. It only writes what you've told it, so give it a read before you post.
